Music Lessons

November 2008. With the first Sant’Eustachio Benefits destined to the music lessons, it was possible to buy 12 guitars. The music lessons are given to the children of the co-op associates and to all the young people who take part in the “Minas Olimpica” Program – a program supported by Coopfam in which 105 young people, aged 8 to 17, are involved in educational, sportive and artistic activities in their spare time. The “Minas Olimpica” Program coordinator Karina and her three assistants spend their mornings and afternoons with the kids in the sports ground of the school that the Town Council of Poço Fundo let them use.

December 2008. The music teacher employed part of November and the whole of December to give guitar lessons to all the 105 kids involved in the programs of the co-op. The teacher wants to select the children who have a talent for music in order to begin special programs with the aim to strengthen local culture and music. The inland of Brazil has a rich variety of music types that were born with the first settlements and that have been protected from external influences for a long time. Nowadays, it is necessary to reinforce this music of origin that is going to be changed and lost because of the standardization process brought by TV and Globalisation.
